The Alaska State Library offers a free PDF manual on book repair. Conservation Book Repair: A training manual by Artemis BonaDea
Here is a site with some nice instructions on a few basic book repairs. Instructions include hinge tightening and tipping in loose pages.
Book Repair for Beginners: An illustrated step-by-step guide This is an inexpensive guide that comes in hardcover or as a downloadable PDF.
