Rainy Labor Day…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 6:49 pm

Good afternoon readers…

It’s been a cool and rainy Labor Day holiday here in the southland. Instead of burgers and hot dogs on the grill we’re having chilli and cornbread.

Thought I’d drop in and share with you that I made a delightful discovery the other night at the bookstore. The Book Arts Forum is mentioned as a resource in the new book Re-Bound: Creating Handmade Books from Recycled and Repurposed Materials by Jeannine Stien.  :o)

Don’t forget to add a comment about fall traditions on my giveaway post for your chance to win a cool little journal.

More fall musings…

Filed under: Announcements, Morning Musings — jackie @ 9:20 am

Good morning readers.

I’m getting lots of wonderful comments about fall traditions on my giveaway post. It’s nice to know that people are still coming by even after my long hiatus. Keep’em coming.

Exciting news…I am the featured artist over on the Billie’s Craftroom Blog this month!

A brand new swap has been announced over on the Book Arts Forum. This time it’s girdle books hosted by Buechertiger. Along with the swap information she has posted a number of great links to information and photos of girdle books.

I have also posted a pamphlet book swap for beginners and anyone that finds the girdle books a bit intimidating. This swap will be a quick turnaround swap. Sign up over on the forum by Sept. 15, have books in the mail by Oct. 1.

Speaking of fall..besides spring, it’s the other time of the year when I feel like slowing down and cleaning out things in my life that don’t add to it so it was fitting when I came across this article by Dr. Wayne Dyer titled Sweep It Clean, Inside & Out 12 ways to simplify your life and set your spirit free! posted over on Teesha Moore’s blog.

Musings and a little giveaway…

Filed under: Giveaway, Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:09 am

Good morning readers…

According to Starbucks fall is officially here. They have started offering their pumpkin spice lattes again. Yummmm……

I know it’s not officially fall but the last few days sure have felt like it. I’ve been rummaging through my knitting books and dreaming of cozy handmade sweaters and socks and hot soup and bread.

Since I am feeling in the fall mood, I am going to have a little giveaway. A while back I made some of these little canvas covered books printed with photos I had taken of the fall colors in the mountains of Virginia. I still have a few of them. They are the ones on the right in this photo.

Fall Colors books

To enter my little giveaway all you need to do is leave me a comment and tell me about a favorite fall tradition that you have or what your favorite thing about fall is. On the evening of Sept. 15 (my Grandmas 98th birthday) I’ll put everyone’s name in a hat and have my lovely assistant draw one.

Good luck!

Early fall like weather…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 9:19 am

Good morning readers…

The weather here is absolutely beautiful. Sunny, cool and breezy. I’m sure it won’t last but I’m enjoying it while I can.

There are still a few spaces left in my upcoming Flush Mount Binding workshop and retreat. You do not need to have any binding experience to participate. We will work from the ground up. You can also bring a non-student guest to stay with you at the retreat. They can hang out and relax, take a walk on the beach or check out some of the local attractions while you are in the workshop.

It’s September…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:45 am

Good morning readers…

It’s actually cool and overcast here in the Southland this morning. My mind has started to wander with thoughts of fall things such as hot soup, handmade sweaters, boots and lots of bookmaking.

Hopefully I will be able to graduate in December and will take the winter off from attending classes to be able to concentrate on my artwork. I’m actually looking forward to hibernating in my studio this winter and getting lots of stuff done.

Of note…

The Convivio Book of Days September edition is up.

If you haven’t been over and checked out the Book Artists and Poets podcast get thee over there asap. I had to go out of town this past weekend and listened to many hours while driving of inspiring interviews with book and paper artists from around the country. Makes you want to run to your studio and start making things.

The Book Arts forum is starting up a new book swap for fall. Beginners are always welcome to participate. Don’t be shy. We all were beginners once.

Upcoming Flush Mount Album Workshop…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 9:09 am

I am planning on offering another flush mount album making workshop in mid to late Oct.

This workshop is for working photographers who are interested in creating their own albums so that they may offer a unique product to their clients, as well as binders looking to add an additional service to their bindery that would benefit photograhers in their area. Flush mount style albums are also a great way for artists to present their work when submitting portfolios to prospective clients.

For more information please see my workshop page.

Finally catching a breath…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 8:05 am

Good morning dear readers…

I have been mucho busy the past couple of months. I’ve been doing alot of teaching (adult classes and summer camp for kids), finishing up classes for my associate’s degree in fine art, and helping to manage a beach rental house.

Things are winding down a bit now so I’ve been trying to decide in what direction I want to take this blog. When I first started it several years ago there weren’t many bookbinding blogs. Since then a whole new batch has cropped up. A newbie to the world of bookbinding now has tons of information at their fingertips. Which, of course, leaves me wondering what I can offer information wise that hasn’t already been offered. Hmmm…

In the mean time…I have updated my bookbinding tutorial links page with some new links.

Also, The Book Arts Forum has been alive with some great book chatter over the past few months. If you haven’t checked it out or are a member and haven’t been on in a while you should go over and take a look. There are lots of good discussions, organized swaps, tons of eye candy and some really wonderful and helpful members.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

More additions to the yard sale page…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 12:22 pm

Hey all,

I have a few more additions to the yard sale page as I’m still in the process of culling out items that I no longer need or use. Now that the holiday weekend has come and gone I will be doing more cleaning and organizing and will also be adding things as I come across them so check back often.

I definitely appreciate all the sales so far.

Have a great day!

Any local binders/artists out there?

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:52 am

I’ve got a box of binders board scraps and a bunch of large sheets of paper that I’d like to find new homes for. The binders board is various small size pieces that would be good for small projects. The paper is some thick decorative papers with inclusions and some large sheets of parchment type paper in different colors.

Email me if interested. If I don’t find any takers by Weds. it’ll go to Freecyle.

Online yard sale…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 11:16 am

Hey there readers.

I am finished with school for the semester but am cleaning out my studio because I can barely move in it. I’ve got alot of things that I will be divesting myself of over the next few days. Please check my online yard sale page for items that I will be selling.

Also, if you are local, I will have a bunch of large sheets of paper to either sell really cheaply or give away once I clean out my paper files. If you’re interested, shoot me an email and I will notify you once I decide what’s going.

I’m hoping to be back posting regularly next week. Stay tuned.
