What inspires you?

Filed under: Inspiration — jackie @ 11:32 am

Good morning all.

This morning I wanted to talk a little bit more about inspiration. As I’ve mentioned before I spend way too much a little time each morning checking out my favorite blogs and surfing the Net for inspiration for my books and of course, to share with you.

I also gain inspiration from other sources such as books on various crafts and the world around me. When looking at and buying books I do not limit myself to books on bookarts and binding. I look at books on painting, beading, quilting and collage to name a few.. I like to take it all in until my head explodes and try to figure out how I can somehow incorporate all the beautiful ideas into my books.

Some of the things I have incorporated in the past are fabric and quilting. I’ve made quilted cover books out of fabric as well as scrap paper pieces. I love to use beads on my books even if they are just on the ribbon bookmark. I think they add a bit of elegance. I’ve painted covers, embelished them with three dimensional figures. I’ve used wood, plastic clay, glass and metals for covers. You are only limited by your imagination.

I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t be afraid to try out new ideas. Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t. Don’t worry too much about wasting a bit of glue, paper or fabric. And of course if you’re a packrat saver like me, don’t throw away the bloopers and misfits as they have a personality all their own and you may be able to incorporate them or utilize them in future projects.

Now on to a little blog business…I’m curious as to what you, dear readers, would like to see on this site. After all it is your site. I created it to share ideas and information on book arts with anyone who is interested. I have been working hard to make sure that the content is fresh, relevant and plentiful. Of course the later is what I need help with. I could, of course, blab on and on about whatever is in my head but I’d also like to know what you would like to see here in the future. More tutorials/how tos, featured book artists, surf reports? Leave me a comment or shoot me an email and let me know.

Hi…my name is Jackie and I am a bookbinding enabler.
