Tuesday musings…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 11:10 am

Good morning readers.

I’m happy to announce that fall weather seems to be here to stay. We’ve had cooler temperatures the past couple of days and the nights have been almost chilly.

If anyone has any methods for staving off an impending sinus infection I’d love to hear them as I awoke with a headache and that “icky” feeling this morning. I’ve downed an Emergen-C and some coffee hoping I’d feel better but I’d rather go back to bed than class.

The Book Arts Forum second book swap is open for signups at this time. Surf on over and check it out.

Of note:

The October Convivio Book of Days is Online.

If you are interested in letterpress printing the October Issue of Galley Gab is available for download.

I’m slowly realizing that I can’t do every craft that interests me. That I need to settle into one area of craft and a few of it’s peripherals. It’s just that I see so many interesting things that I want to try. Especially things that could enhance my books. Like letterpress. I am fascinated by it and would love to be able to print up my own cards, etc. but I would have to get a press and some type and …well…you see where I am going with this don’t you? Basically I don’t have the room or time to take on any more crafts right now. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to.

I think I must single handedly keep the craft book publishing industry in business as I buy books on subjects that I am interested in at an alarming rate. :P

My aim this winter is to pare down. Figure out what works well in my arsenal of tools related to bookmaking and concentrate on that more fully. That will be hard for me as there are so many things that I’d like to try.

A little story…about a year ago I submitted my books for possible acceptance into a local art and craft gallery. The jurors thought that my books were nice looking, well made and technically sound but that they lacked that “artistic flair”. Basically they were too traditional for said art gallery. Go figure. Thus my quest to make my books look more decorative.

So…this upcoming year I plan to concentrate on a few new techniques for making my traditional looking books become more decorative. The swap book was my first step towards that goal.

Now that I’ve rambled on…I hope everyone has a great day.
