Sunday morning coffee & musings…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:06 am

Good morning readers.

Don’t forget that today is the last day to get your name in the Jar to win the anniversary prize(s). :) The cutoff time will be 5:00 pm eastern US time.

I had hoped to do more for the anniversary but I’ve been crazy busy lately with school and making books. I’m participating in a craft show at the end of April so I’m trying to make sure I have a nice selection of books for it.

I’m still planning on finishing up the headband video and have a few more interviews in the works but, they’ll have to wait until the semester is over in a few weeks.

I’ll be back later to announce the winners.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Saturday morning coffee and musings…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:17 am

Salutations dear readers…

The open house at Jerry’s went well last night. A few people stopped by my table to chat about bookbinding classes. There was, of course, lots of interest in the painters. :)

I’m finishing up a group of Chameleons this morning. Four will be going to new homes on Monday and four will be going into the shop this afternoon. I just need to finish up a few details and take a few photos.

Here are the covers waiting for their accessories.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Thursday morning musings…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 8:20 am

Salutations dear readers.

For all you local readers out there, Jerry’s is having another “Meet the Artist’s” night this coming Friday (3/28 - tommorrow) evening from 6-9 pm. It’s a good chance to come out and see what type of classes are being offered. Also they will be giving away coupons for a discount on your purchases as well as door prizes and snacks. I’ll be there so come on by and say “hi”.

I’m in the process of finishing up a few Chameleons that will be sent out to their new homes tommorrow. I’ll post photos when they’re done. If all goes well, I’ll have a few extras to put in the shop for sale. I’m also working on some simple accessory tutorials that will be posted on the Chameleon page, hopefully by this weekend if I can finish up my art class assignments before then.

That’s it for now. Don’t forget to comment so you can get your name in the jar. The prize is really nice. :)

Have a great day.

My Mini Zine…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 8:13 pm

Salutations dear readers.

I have been swamped with school work the past couple of days. Which, of course, has been keeping me from being able to post in the mornings. :(

One of the projects that I recently completed for my Visual Arts Foundations class was a mini Zine. The assignment was to describe and illustrate a process. For my process, I wrote out a description on how to make a mini Zine and illustrated it with hand drawn pictures.

I also made a mini Zine that is a little guide for making a hardcover book using individual sheets of paper and also illustrated it with hand drawn pictures. This is not a perfect binding technique. These books are great if you’re looking to bind pages of photographs that you’ve printed out onto a heavyweight matte paper. The books do not lie completely flat but they do open nicely for viewing. This binding style is perfect for skinny books. I use it to make parent books for weddings.

My Mini Zine

If you’d like a copy of my mini Zine, I am selling them for $5.00. Each copy is hand folded by me and gets delivered direct to your mailbox.  What’s even better is that all the money that I make from them will be going into my summer school fund. So help a girl continue her education by purchasing your very own copy. Click here to find out how.

A reminder, I will be drawing for the anniversary giveaway this Sunday the 30th. You get your name put in the jar each time you comment to one of my posts. Don’t miss out. You could be a winner. :)

Saturday morning musings…

Filed under: Announcements, Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:02 am

Good morning readers.

A reminder for readers in the local area. I will be at Jerry’s from 1-4pm today demonstrating. Please stop by and say “Hi”.

For those of you that asked about ordering a Chameleon Notebook, I have created a page where you can find information on pricing and leathers available. I will also have premade notebooks available in the next few days.

Of note…

Rhonda, over at My Handbound Books, has created some fun little mini books.

Sue Bleiweiss is offering some online mixed media journaling classes that look like they are going to be lots of fun.

Don’t forget to check out Patrick Ng’s blog, Scription, for stationery inspiration. It will definitly make you want to break out the art supplies and create letters to send to your faraway friends.

I hope everyone has a great day!

The Chameleon…

Filed under: Announcements — jackie @ 6:19 pm

As promised, here are photos of the Chameleon refillable notebook (my version of the Traveler’s Notebook) that I made for Patrick Ng. I’ll be sending it along to Hong Kong in the morning.

The Chameleon

Patrick’s cover is made from a nice dark cowhide that has that “well worn” look. He choose a flap pocket for the back but it is also available with a large slash pocket similar to the one on the inside front of the cover. It’s got a leather bookmark with decorative beads that can be replaced with whatever you like. The cover comes with 6 refills. Three of plain paper and three of grid paper. It also comes with a cloth bag for protection and an set of extra elastic bands.

I am in the process of making these to put in my shop. In the mean time, if you are interested in getting your own Chameleon, shoot me an email and I’ll let you know the colors of leather that I have available as well as the price, etc.

The Chameleons are available for order now. Please check out the Chameleon page for more information.

I will also be creating instructions for making your own refills. I will post them on the site when they are done.

Thurday musings and Patrick’s Chameleon…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 8:49 am

Salutations dear readers!

A reminder to readers in the local area, I’ll be demoing at Jerry’s this coming Saturday from 1-4pm. Jerry’s is also having a “Meet the artists night” on Friday March 28 from 6-9pm. There will be wine and snacks as well as giveaways. It’s a great time to come out and meet the artists who teach the classes and see a bit of their work.

Also, I’m teaching a class at Jerry’s on Sunday April 13th from 1-4pm. I’ll be teaching a simple wraparound leather journal. The classes are usually small and you leave with a finished journal and instructions for making more at home.

I’ve finished Patrick Ng’s Chameleon (the name for my version of the Midori Traveler’s Notebook). I’ll be posting photos here on the blog when I get back from class later today and I’ll also be posting info on how you can get your own Chameleon. Stay tuned.

Of note…

The Rag and Bone blog has a short list posted of classes and workshops that can be found at various places around the country.

I hope everyone has a great day!
