It was a dark and stormy morning…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 7:22 am

Good morning readers…

This morning it’s really dark outside and it’s almost 7:00 am. I believe that we set our clocks back an hour this coming weekend for daylight savings time.

We finally have some much needed rain in our area though I wish we could send some of it to California.

I’m still feeling a bit under the weather as this sinus/head thing just seems to get worse not better. I’m sure that kicking up all the dust in the old computer didn’t help at all. I’m plugging on though as I’ve got about 800 photos from a wedding to process, two exams to study for and an art show coming up in a week.

I’m mostly making items under $35 for the show in hopes of getting alot of gift sales. I will have a few more expensive items as well. I’ll be sharing a both with three other artists. My friend Holly who is a weaver and Andrea who is a photographer and will also have her husband’s wood turnings there.

If you’re in the local area, check out the Virginia Wesleyan Artisan’s Expo next Sat. or Sun. From the site, “For the first time ever, Virginia Wesleyan will host an Artisans Expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, with a Special Preview Event at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.”  Please stop by and say Hi if you come to the show.

Of note:

One of the things that I like to do with my books to finish them off is add a few beads to the bookmark ribbons. Depending on the width of the ribbon it can be a bit of a bear to do sometimes. Here’s a handy little tutorial from Pink Chalk Studio for threading beads onto the end of ribbon.

I’ve been contemplating silk screening some of my own paper or fabric for book covers. If it’s something that you have wanted to do check out this tutorial on the Craftzine site.

By way of my mailbox, a link to an online exhibition featuring a digital archive of Ethiopian coptic bindings. This is the digital collections at the College of St. Benedict, St. John’s University.  “It currently contains images from 178 Ethiopian Coptic codices with more to be added in the future.” There are a wealth of photos here to study if this style of binding interests you.

I hope everyone has a great day.
