Thursday musings…

Filed under: Morning Musings — jackie @ 11:24 am

Good afternoon readers.

It’s overcast here and the sky is threatening rain, which we need badly, but I think it’s just being a big tease again. Ok…as I was writing this it started to pour outside…go figure.

My book swap partner finally recieved her book from me so I can show you photos of it. Yeah!

I played around with some new techniques on this one. I used a modified case binding structure. I had been looking for ways to simplify my bindings to stream line the process of making multiples and I gave this tutorial by Dave the Designer a try. I ended up modifying it slightly. The big diff. in the way Dave makes his books and a more traditional case bound book is that the block is rounded but not backed. I actually like the appearance of the book.

The spine decoration was done with a wood burning tool. I used this tutorial as guideline to burn my initial design onto the leather. I then dyed and painted it with acrylic paint and gave it a couple coats of acrylic varnish. The leather is fairly thick so I did have to skive/pare the edges for a smoother turn in.

Here are the specs….
The book is 7.5″ tall x 8″wide, it has 40 leaves of hand torn Stonehenge paper, Canson MiTientes endsheets. The spine is leather with hot tooling and acrylic paint. The cover is decorative scrapbooking paper. It has hand sewn headbands and ribbon bookmarks with glass leaf beads.
