5000!

Filed under: Announcements, Educational Opportunities — jackie @ 8:45 am

Good morning readers.

Yesterday we hit a milestone on this little site. We went over the 5000 visitor mark for the month of March!

A big thank you to all my regular readers as well as all the new folks that happen along. It’s nice to know that there are folks out there that “listen” to my morning ramblings. :o

This is the last week of drawing for the prizes. We have a weekly drawing on Friday as well as a final grand prize drawing on Sat. where some lucky person is going to win a copy of Keith Smith’s book Bookbinding For Book Artists and a few other surprises. So, don’t miss out. Get your name in the jar.

More summer educational opportunities.

The Shakerag Workshops in Sewanee, Tn. is offering a course by Dolph Smith titled Books On The Move June 10-16, 2007. From the description “The early emphasis in this class will be on developing a clear understanding of traditional multi-sectioned book binding. During the week the emphasis will shift to thinking of the book as a small kinetic sculpture.”

The Wells Book Arts Summer Institute at Wells College in Aurora, NY has some interesting classes available this summer. From the site “For its third annual summer institute, the Wells Book Arts Center is offering an extraordinary opportunity to learn from some of the nation’s most important figures in the book arts. Our intensive, hands-on courses in letterpress printing, bookbinding and lettering arts are taught by remarkable instructors in Wells’ historic setting of lyric beauty. We invite you to become part of this new tradition on the shores of Cayuga Lake, in New York’s Finger Lakes region.”

Not about making books but book related…

8th Annual Pacific Northwest Children’s Book Conference at the Portland State University in Portland, Oregon July 9-13, 2007. From the site “Join us this summer for an inspiring week as we focus on the craft of writing and illustrating for children and young adults.”

Rare Book School at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. There are weekly workshops June - July, 2007 From the site “Rare Book School (RBS) is an independent non-profit educational institute supporting the study of the history of books and printing and related subjects. Founded in 1983, it moved to its present home at the University of Virginia in 1992.”

If anyone has any classes or workshops you are teaching or you know of any coming up please feel free to post about them over on the Book Arts Forum in the Education Opportunities board.
