Just checking in…

I’m here. I’ve been busy taking care of home network issues and writing reference pages for the site. Tomm. I will start on my week’s 10 books. Some of you may have noticed that there were only 9 books made last week. There was a “cutting” incident that happened with the 10th one. It did not survive. I am working on an odd book. A Valentine book done in coptic stitch. That will take the place of the book that met with an unfortunate end. I’ll post pics when it’s done. I’m also thinking about trying my hand at a Springback binding. I was originnally taught the German Case binding so I tend to stick with that style when making hardcover books. I have done a few Fench style bindings. They are beautiful when done but very “fiddley” to do. Being a tightback (the leather is glued to the spine) book I don’t think they are well suited to becoming journals. That’s just my opinion. YMMV

If you want a bit of visual stimulation, check out your local library and see if they have a copy of Art Nouveau and Art Deco Bookbinding: French Masterpieces 1880-1940 by Alastair Duncan and Georges DeBartha. Lots of yummy French leather binding examples from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
