It’s that time of year again…

Filed under: Morning Musings, stuff to buy — jackie @ 10:24 am

Good morning readers.

Yesterday was a “run around” day for me. I was up and out unusually early. It was also a horribly humid day. I think today will be the same. I guess we are officially in the “dog days of summer” here in the south. Makes me start wishing for those cool fall days.

For those of you in the states it’s “that time of year again”. You know what I’m talking about. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. It’s the time when new school supplies are out in force on the store shelves. Yeah!

There are shelves and shelves of pens, pencils, backpacks, accessories and paper of all kinds. Walmart has a great deal on Elmer’s glue at .20 a bottle. If you use it it’s time to stock up. They have the Mead black and white notebooks for .18! They also have the plastic pencil boxes for about .50 or so. These are great for holding your bookmaking tools.

If you have a Dollar Store near you check them out for knives with snap off blades. I got one yesterday that came with 10 extra blades. Can’t beat it for a buck.

Have I mentioned how much I love this time of year?

Lately I have been working hard on tracking the time I spend doing things daily and trying to figure out where all my time goes. I find it’s alot like money. The more you have available the more you spend it on who knows what. Since I started working from home I found that I can lose parts of or whole days at a time and not know what the heck I have done. I have a friend who has the same problem (we have the same birthday) and we have started an online journal where we each post in the morning and set goals for the day and then post in the evening about what we actually did for the day. It has been very enlightening.

For myself I have learned that I need to set priorities and set a dedicated work time. It has been really hard to accomplish this. There are so many things that come up that take me away from my work.

I am envious of people who can organize their time and accomplish tasks in an efficient manner. I would love to hear about any tips or tricks you all use to organize your time efficiently.

I’ll leave you today with a little inspiration.

It’s Wednesday and there are only 145 days until Christmas…

Filed under: Inspiration, Morning Musings, stuff to buy — jackie @ 10:12 am

Good morning readers…

I got some great comments by Marloes and Clara to my post on pricing yesterday. Over the coming weeks I will occassionally be revisiting the subject as I prepare for upcoming pre-holiday craft shows. Pricing is def. something that everyone who creates handmade items struggles with on an on going basis.

Speaking of handmade items…for those of you who celebrate, did you know that there are only 145 days left until Christmas? If you’re planning on making your gifts this year you may want to think about getting started and not waiting until the last minute as I do. :D

This year I am planning on either making my holiday gifts or buying handmade ones. Over the coming months every Wednesday I will post links to sites that sell handmde items as well as ideas and tutorials for making cool gifts for your friends and family. All book and paper art related of course.

I will also be posting ideas on the Gift ideas for the book artist in your life” page. If you have anything you’d like to see listed there please shoot me an email.

Here are a few sites to get you started thinking…

The Jotterblog is “about stationery, handmade craftery and the things that bring us cozy happiness”. All of those are included on my favorite things list.

Tyler Bender takes old classic books and turns them into blank journals and sketchbooks.

Ex Libris cuteness has items such as library card bookplates, reading glasses holders and reading lamps.

Tirzah has taken old book covers and made handbags out of them. Way cool.

Photobird has lovely photo cards and postcards

Paperedtogether has a great selection of nice letterpress printed cards

These are just a few of the shops over on Etsy that have wonderful handmade items available for your gift giving pleasure.

I hope everyone has a great day.
