More fall musings…

Filed under: Announcements, Morning Musings — jackie @ 9:20 am

Good morning readers.

I’m getting lots of wonderful comments about fall traditions on my giveaway post. It’s nice to know that people are still coming by even after my long hiatus. Keep’em coming.

Exciting news…I am the featured artist over on the Billie’s Craftroom Blog this month!

A brand new swap has been announced over on the Book Arts Forum. This time it’s girdle books hosted by Buechertiger. Along with the swap information she has posted a number of great links to information and photos of girdle books.

I have also posted a pamphlet book swap for beginners and anyone that finds the girdle books a bit intimidating. This swap will be a quick turnaround swap. Sign up over on the forum by Sept. 15, have books in the mail by Oct. 1.

Speaking of fall..besides spring, it’s the other time of the year when I feel like slowing down and cleaning out things in my life that don’t add to it so it was fitting when I came across this article by Dr. Wayne Dyer titled Sweep It Clean, Inside & Out 12 ways to simplify your life and set your spirit free! posted over on Teesha Moore’s blog.

We’re back…

Filed under: Announcements — jackie @ 9:34 pm

Our domain was migrated to a new server this morning and I hit a little snag trying to update Wordpress to the latest version this evening.

Everything should be working fine now. Here and over on the forum. Unfortunately we lost a few posts on the forum during the migration but thankfully that was all that went awry.

Thanks for your patience!

Saturday morning musings…

Filed under: Announcements, Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:02 am

Good morning readers.

A reminder for readers in the local area. I will be at Jerry’s from 1-4pm today demonstrating. Please stop by and say “Hi”.

For those of you that asked about ordering a Chameleon Notebook, I have created a page where you can find information on pricing and leathers available. I will also have premade notebooks available in the next few days.

Of note…

Rhonda, over at My Handbound Books, has created some fun little mini books.

Sue Bleiweiss is offering some online mixed media journaling classes that look like they are going to be lots of fun.

Don’t forget to check out Patrick Ng’s blog, Scription, for stationery inspiration. It will definitly make you want to break out the art supplies and create letters to send to your faraway friends.

I hope everyone has a great day!

The Chameleon…

Filed under: Announcements — jackie @ 6:19 pm

As promised, here are photos of the Chameleon refillable notebook (my version of the Traveler’s Notebook) that I made for Patrick Ng. I’ll be sending it along to Hong Kong in the morning.

The Chameleon

Patrick’s cover is made from a nice dark cowhide that has that “well worn” look. He choose a flap pocket for the back but it is also available with a large slash pocket similar to the one on the inside front of the cover. It’s got a leather bookmark with decorative beads that can be replaced with whatever you like. The cover comes with 6 refills. Three of plain paper and three of grid paper. It also comes with a cloth bag for protection and an set of extra elastic bands.

I am in the process of making these to put in my shop. In the mean time, if you are interested in getting your own Chameleon, shoot me an email and I’ll let you know the colors of leather that I have available as well as the price, etc.

The Chameleons are available for order now. Please check out the Chameleon page for more information.

I will also be creating instructions for making your own refills. I will post them on the site when they are done.

Friday morning musings…

Filed under: Announcements, Morning Musings — jackie @ 10:57 am

Good morning readers.

It’s cooled off considerably here since yesterday. Our weather had been hovering in the hi 90’s to 100 degree range for the past couple of days but a storm front seems to have cooled things down for now. We haven’t gotten any rain but it is on it’s way.

I just wanted to remind the local folks that there is still room in my class this Sunday, August 12, at Jerry’s Artarama. I will be teaching the accordian book structure. We will be making serveral examples and I’ll have instructions for you to take home. If you’re interested please let me know or call the store to get put on the list.

Also, on Friday August 17 from 6-9 PM Jerry’s is having another meet the artist night. Most of the artists that teach there will be on hand demonstrating their art and answering questions. There will also be wine and snacks. It’s always a fun event and it gives you a chance to get out and see what classes are being offered. I hope to see some of you there.

I will aslo be giving a class with artist James O’Connor titled “Book Of Haiku” on Sat. Sept. and at the Contemporary Art Center in Virginia Beach. In this class students will be learning about and writing Haikus as well as creating illustrations by carving linoleum blocks and also using a Gocco printer. We will then put them all together to create an accodian fold book with everyone’s poems and illustrations. We need to have at least 5 students to make it a go. If you think you might be interested, please call the CACV office and sign up as soon as possible.

I need to go can tomatoes as I bought 20 lbs of them this morning at one of the local farm stands.

I hope everyone has a great day.

I am really stoked as I finally finished my Flush Mount Album Making Guide and it is available for purchase. You can find more information about it here.

The guide is 35 pages and has over 60 photos as well as custom illustrations. Creating it has truly been a challenge but it’s been rewarding and I have learned alot by doing it. I can’t wait to hear what people think of it.

Album making workshop…

Filed under: Announcements, Educational Opportunities — jackie @ 9:01 am

Good morning readers.

I am in the process of organizing a 2 Day Intensive Workshop on Album and Box Making for photographers interested in learning how to make their own flush mount style albums. This class will be “hands on meaning you should come prepared to spend two full days making your own flush mount albums and matching clamshell boxes from start to finish. Class size will be limited to 10 students.

The class dates are Weds. and Thurs. Aug 1 & 2, 2007. The class will be held in Chesapeake, Va. at the newly renovated Portlock Galleries art space. Chesapeake is only a 30 drive away from the Virginia Beach resort area. If you are interested in taking the class please send me an email and I’ll put you on the list to be notified when the final details are available.

A few sites of interest this morning…

The Book and Paper Group has a selection of papers relating to book and paper arts on their site. From the site “The Book and Paper Group Annualis a non-juried anthology of papers pertaining to the conservation and preservation of works of art on paper, books and library and archival materials. It provides members with a venue for sharing technical information in a timely fashion. Many, but not all, papers in the Annual represent talks given at the BPG sessions of the AIC meeting. Many BPGA articles appear eventually (sometimes in revised form) in the Journal of the American Institute for Conservation (JAIC), a peer-reviewed journal.”

This is an interesting online portfolio showing many different syles of bindings.

The website of Denis Gouey has alot of useful informations and some tutorials. There is a nice one on museum box making.

There are some new photos posted over on the Flickr group.

If you have any announcements of interest to the book arts community please feel free to post them on the new “Events Board” over in the forum. It is searchable by the general public.
